A day in life with Chris Black

Meet Chris Black, co-host of the widely popular podcast How Long Gone, creator of Done to Death Projects, and regular contributor to New York Magazine and GQ. On a recent trip to Copenhagen, he visited our store, and we went for a walk and coffee with him.

What is your most important morning routine to start the day off right?

I start every day with some workout. It calms me down while also producing some much-needed endorphins.

What is your most important tool during a working day?

My MacBook Air is open most of the day. I cannot really work on my iPhone.

Which cultural elements do you use during a working day?

I listen to music a lot if I am not writing. It has been a mix of Graham Hunt, Brian Eno, Wacahatchee, Vegyn, Strictly Ballroom, Chanel Beads, Verbena, and Mk.gee.

What can you do to reach your highest level professionally?

Stay focused, keep an eye on the prize, don’t listen to the detractors. Don’t put too much value in receiving credit.

Do you have any fixed routines during a working day?

I try to leave the house for an afternoon coffee from Cafe Integral. If the weather is nice, I sit outside on a bench, collect my thoughts, and go back to work refreshed.

What do you do to develop both professionally and personally?

Read, ask questions, listen to young people.

How do you end your working day?

I don’t! I try to be available for my clients at all times. I enjoy what I do.

How do you prefer to spend your evening?

At a restaurant in the neighborhood with my wife. Preferably on the earlier side.

Do you have any regular routines before you go to bed?

I take a ton of vitamins and spray magnesium oil on my feet. It’s very calming and encourages sleep.

What can you do in your spare time that gives you inspiration for your work?

I love taking pictures, meeting new people, collecting books and magazines, traveling, and looking at art.

Lastly, you travel a lot to Stockholm. What is it about that city for you that we from Copenhagen don’t understand?

I really like how it looks and feels. I have some great friends and a pizza place I love. Plus, Kex is the best chocolate bar in the world. What more do you need?
